7th grade: Islamic inspired tiles
The seventh grade art students began the semester by looking at different geometric designs found in Islamic tile work. Islamic patterns are often meant to reflect God's perfection though its symmetry and complexity. The students were given two tiles (one star and one cross -- it's a perfect fit!) and asked to create meaning by representing their own identity with a symbol while using geometric themes found in Islamic patterns and tile work. One of the tiles was even chosen to be the design on the BSM christmas card!
